Assemini, chaos and carabinieri at the polls: Puddu in the ballot, between Corrias and Muscas battle over 21 contested ballots

If in Iglesias the victory of Mauro Usai has never been in question , in Assemini we still have to wait to understand who will challenge the former mayor Mario Puddu in the ballot of 11 and 12 June.
The data from the Interior Ministry, with all 22 sections scrutinized, speak of a race for the last vote between Niside Muscas, candidate for Lega, FI and FdI, and Diego Corrias, who runs for the enlarged center-left with Pd, M5s and PSI.
Just nine votes: Diego Corrias is ahead by a neck, 3,211 votes (31.15%) against 3,202 (31.06%) of Niside Muscas . But there are 21 contested ballots to be filled, which the Tribunal will do tomorrow at 2.00pm.
Furthermore, with such a small difference and 309 null ballots, the request for a recount of ballots appears almost obvious .
The only certainty, we said, Mario Puddu: 3,896 (37.79%) the votes for the former five-star mayor who today runs with his own civic list and the support of the centrists who support Solinas, Sardinia 20Venti, UDC and Riformatori in the Region.
A nightmarish vote in Assemini: both for the turnout (just 46.66%) and because, with two candidates playing on the wire for the possibility of going to the ballot, the list representatives pressed to the limit of physical assault on any dubious ballot .
The carabinieri intervened in various polling stations to restore calm, even during the night . A teller fell ill and the deputy secretary of the municipality was officially appointed to preside over an otherwise unguarded polling station.
In short, a real chaos, in which the only one to rejoice is Mario Puddu himself : «We are in the final», he says that he is certain, and he attributes the abstention to the «last years of city government, which brought about this disaffection ».
On his Facebook page, the former M5s adds: «A first step has been taken. A result, albeit partial, very important and significant. We reached the ballot with an excellent coalition result and a particular satisfaction since the Civic List that bears my name was the political force with the most votes in Assemini ».
IGLESIAS, THE FINAL DATA – The challenge to Iglesias has no history. The outgoing center-left mayor Mauro Usai is reconfirmed with a Bulgarian percentage, 73.55% with 10,817 votes . Defeat without appeal for Beppe Pes , 20.8% and 3,059 votes. The Brothers of Italy candidate Luigi Biggio is even more distant, obtaining 5.35% with 861 votes.
