FestArtes, Sulky Jazz and Narratives in Sant'Antioco ends in style with Ascanio Celestini and his “Radio Clandestina”, a performance imagined starting from the text by Alessandro Portelli “The Order has already been performed”. After several evenings, most of which with the sea of Cala Sapone as a suggestive backdrop for the music and the show, tomorrow evening the scenario changes and the show is sold out for the show which starts at 9.30 pm in Piazza De Gasperi, with the Basilica of Sant'Antioco Martire in the background.

The character

«My name is Ascanio Celestini, son of Gaetano Celestini and Comin Piera. My father puts the furniture back in place, old or antique furniture. He was born in Quadraro and as a boy he was taken to work under a master in the shop in San Lorenzo. My mother is from Tor Pignattara, when she was young she was a hairdresser for someone who had cut the hair of the king of Italy and at that time she danced ballroom. When she married my father she stopped dancing. When I was born she stopped being a hairdresser. My paternal grandfather was a carter in Trastevere. With the accident he was greatly disabled from work, he went to work at the Iris cinema in Porta Pia. In the morning he did the cleaning, in the afternoon and evening he did the masque, at night he was the watchman. His wife was called Agnese, she was born in Bedero. I remember that he made his shoes with old gloves. My maternal grandfather was called Giovanni and he was a woodcutter with Primo Carnera. My maternal grandmother was born in Anguillara Sabazia and her name was Marianna. His sister, Fenisia, took off the bills and she told stories of witches».

The show

First time in 2000 in via Tasso in Rome (former Nazi prison now museum of Liberation), "Radio Clandestina" is a story that has an impact on the audience, intense and focused on the emotional and rough re-enactment of the massacre of the Fosse Ardeatine during the second conflict (24 March 1944, via Ardeatina). The inspiration comes from the book already awarded Viareggio "The order has already been executed" by Alessandro Portelli. A book of voices and stories that in Celestini's narration become the story of the Nazi occupation of the capital, of the world war and of the fascist regime in Italy. Every action taken is nothing more than the realization of a clear intention linked to the reception, promotion and enhancement of the existing through extraordinary shows in unique and suggestive settings, cardinal points and references of an event organized by the Municipality of Sant'Antioco with the support of the Association of Local Authorities for Entertainment, with the sponsorship of the Region of Sardinia and the Fondazione di Sardegna. A happy ending certainly inevitable given the necessary passage of time and the seasons.

«An end which, however, is certainly not absolute and which, on the contrary, after having left an important trace in the memory of those who live every event in the "here and now" mode, opens up to a new beginning - the organizers underline - opens up to renewed enthusiasm and new stimuli, to a new edition that probably already burns in the ashes after having seen moments and characters and artistic expressions celebrated, lived and told such as Nanowar of Steel and Lucidosottile, Rock in Trio and Cesare Bocci, Surealistas, Fabio Zeppetella feat Fabrizio Bosso, Duo (Eleonora Strino and Francesca Tandoi), the Fanfare Station, maestro Stefano Bollani and, last only in order of programme, Ascanio Celestini. To all of them the dutiful thanks and the applause of the audience of the island of Sant'Antioco».

All things - even the most beautiful and intense and full of plots and meanings - have an end. This evening, after a long and joyful ride through the sands and arenas and squares of Sant'Antioco, the 2023 edition of FestArtes, Sulky Jazz and Narrazioni closes. Ten events immersed in jazz and music in general, prose, theater and the natural beauty of the places.
