"Imminent" closure of another 20 operational branches of Banco di Sardegna.

This was announced by the unions, who received official communication from the Bper Group.

"The umpteenth blow to the regional territory, already suffering and penalized by the previous dozens and dozens of closures", reads a joint note from the regional secretariats of Fabi, First-Cisl, Fisac-Cgil, Uilca-Uil, Unisin.

"A direct attack on our local communities which also contributed to the growth and strengthening of the Banco di Sardegna", denounce the trade unions.

Who sound the alarm about further closures that could be announced shortly: “The umpteenth restructuring, this one based on an alleged new world resulting from the spread of Covid. Unicredit has reduced the staff to the point of having an obvious difficulty in sustaining the constant opening of agencies. Intesa-Sanpaolo has closed many offices on the island and it too is struggling to keep up with the constant and deliberate reduction in personnel. BNL is under the pressure of a huge restructuring that will reduce offices and the number of employees in Sardinia, in addition with the sale of part of the workers to other companies. Monte dei Paschi di Siena now has only a few offices open, mostly in the provincial capitals. And it could go on and on. And we can continue along the same lines by talking about other companies ".

The most penalized are the small towns, "those most in need". And yet, the acronyms continue, “nothing justifies such a fury against our land. The agencies are all profitable and the balance sheets of the banks are a hymn to opulence ”.

The unions say they are ready to start "immediately a season of litigation on credit in Sardinia, also reaching the general mobilization of workers and local authorities".
