A new improvement, which allowed him to take his absolute Sardinian pole vault record even higher. But Andrea Demontis has no intention of being satisfied and, after last Sunday's bronze in Ancona at the Tricolori indoor among the Juniores, he lucidly analyzes a race of very high technical content won by Simone Bertelli with the new Italian Under 20 record at 5.51 ahead , in addition to Demontis, the runner-up Federico Bonanni with 5.15. For Francesca Dessì's pupil the measure of 5.10 five centimeters has arrived better than her previous record signed in Parma on 21 January.

Demontis suffered a bronze in the first year of the category.

« Yes, it's definitely a result that satisfies me but I know I can do much better and I'll work to improve even more. Certainly competing with two talents like Simone Bertelli and Federico Bonanni gave me great motivation: they presented themselves as favourites, but I still tried to have my say and fight until the end for the title».

Did you expect such a high-level race?

I knew everyone would give their all. The Tricolori are the most important event of the season, everything is played for everything. I was expecting Simone's record, I thought he would do more than 5.30m but reaching 5.51m was something he didn't even imagine. He was very good, competing with athletes of this caliber is a great pride».

Let's analyze his race. Debut at 4.67 then 4.85, 5, 5.10 all on the first try. Finally three errors at 5.20. What could it improve?

« There is never a shortage of details to improve, each race offers food for thought. Surely the new shaft that I used offers a greater thrust, however it also involves an adaptation period to master it to the fullest. I would have liked to do a better warm-up, it took me a while to find the sensations I was looking for but it's normal, each race is different and in the next ones I'll try to overcome the 5.20m mark which I know I can do».

Upcoming indoor events?

« Most likely, I will be at the Tricolori Assoluti in Ancona in two weeks. That could be a precious opportunity to show off and get a call-up for the Under 20 triangular match on 11 March in Liévin with the national team where there will also be France and Spain».

When will it debut outdoors?

' Around mid-May, not before. We will focus on recovery and training after the indoor sessions, so as to be competitive in the summer where the most important competitions will take place».
