In Cagliari a war refuge resurfaces: it happened in via Bottego, where during the renovation of a building complex under the Bonaria hill, an important historical page unknown to many emerged.

"The tunnel was built shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War and goes under the limestone blanket that houses the Basilica of Bonaria", explained Marcello Polastri, the scholar who explored this place, "in this case, the underground it was dug at the behest of those who sought and luckily found escape during the dreaded aerial bombardments ".

Inside, objects and walled side passages which, according to a legend, would lead to the dungeons of the primitive structure of the Bonaria Castle.

"Used for a long time as a storage room for household goods, forgotten because it was hidden for a long time behind a thick hedge, the refuge has seen the light again in recent days, thanks to the works for the renovation of a large villa", declared the cavers of Sardegna S Underground.

For Polastri "this is the refuge of the inhabitants of via Bottego and viale Bonaria, to be valued, as a page of history to be studied in schools. Suffice it also to think that two magnanimous spouses made it available to everyone. It is said that back in 1943 the area was hit by bombs and one of them in front of the underground entrance, which remained unexploded ".
