Bitter Christmas for over 2,700 Alitalia employees. In a letter sent yesterday, 1 December 2023, to the Government and the trade unions, the former national airline communicated "the start of a procedure which, in spite of itself, leads to dismissals due to staff reductions".
The procedure concerns 2,668 employees of Alitalia in extraordinary administration and another 55 employees of Alitalia Cityliner (Alitalia's regional satellite airline). All were on zero-hour layoffs and now have the guaranteed wage until October 2024.
«The undersigned - we read in the document - is unable to re-employ the workers currently suspended on redundancy pay. Although the relocation processes have not been completed and their definitive outcomes cannot be assessed, their voluntary nature and the lack of production, at present, of outcomes of their implementation (which is still in progress) determine, at present, a situation of surplus personnel which, at present, coincides with the pool of workers suspended on zero-hours CIGs".
