A single private operator cannot manage the island's transport policy.

This was claimed by Michele Pais, president of the Regional Council , who spoke at the debate on the future of Sardinian airports organized by Psd'Az in Alghero.

"For an island, airports are not just an economic infrastructure, but the most important social infrastructure that guarantees the Sardinian's right to mobility", said Pais, underlining that the concept of economic profit to which any entrepreneur tends, "does not always coincide with the concept of utility underlying the public interest".

The hypothesis of a monopoly for the management of the three gateways to Sardinia, therefore, also alarms the president of the regional council.

«How can you think that similar choices are made without the slightest involvement of the public, social and economic system of Sardinia? This is why I have supported the need for the Region to hold absolute direction of the Sardinian transport system , in the interest of economic growth, the circulation of Sardinians and the accessibility of Sardinia by all", concluded Michele Pais.
