Africa as you've never seen it before. On Friday, December 19th, the Arcari Hall in Cagliari hosts the twenty-third edition of "Africa Day," an event that challenges stereotypes and conventional narratives about the African continent.
In an afternoon of dialogue and insights, scholars and academics will discuss often overlooked topics: from traditional and contemporary music, to literature, to sport, including the role of UNESCO in various African contexts.
Among the speakers scheduled: Bianca Maria Carcangiu will discuss the UN agency's cultural initiatives in Africa, Nicola Melis will guide the audience through the world of African music, Annalisa Addis will discuss literature, and Matteo Cardia will close with a look at sport.
The initiative is promoted by AFFRICA – Center for African Studies in Sardinia (CSAS), founded in 2005 to promote knowledge of African history and culture. The center continues the tradition of the Institute of African and Oriental Studies in Cagliari by organizing conferences, seminars, and scholarly publications. Among these, the Nova Collectanea Africana series, dedicated to the study of African minorities, stands out.
For nearly twenty years, CSAS has participated in the European AEGIS network, collaborating with leading African research centers and promoting outreach projects such as AFFRICA.org, designed to bring Africa's cultural complexity to a wider audience.
