Enhancing dozens of beaches throughout Italy and promoting cleaning activities are the main objectives of “Adopt a beach”, the initiative launched by Marevivo for the second consecutive year.

Dozens of locations identified, including in Sardinia.

"The beaches are one of the habitats with the worst state of conservation not only at a national level but also at a European level and the main threats come precisely from human activities, such as pollution, overbuilding of the coasts and irresponsible tourism", explains Raffaella Giugni, head of institutional relations at Marevivo. "When we think of the beach we often do not realize that it is a complex ecosystem rich in biodiversity that is home to hundreds of animal and plant species. This is why we particularly care about this campaign that wants to actively involve people in looking at the beach not as something to be exploited in the summer months, but as a precious environment to be preserved throughout the year ", he adds.

More than 2 thousand volunteers are involved in the campaign, including very young people who have cleaned 20 beaches by removing 15 tons of waste and raising awareness of the naturalistic and ecological value of the "adopted" locations and respect for the sea.

To join, just choose a beach to adopt, specific activities are carried out in each one. For example, in Sardinia, volunteers will be provided with bicycles equipped with a basket to collect and transport waste.
