Shouts of joy, confetti, and hugs from his children: this is how Achille Polonara was welcomed into his family upon returning home after the bone marrow transplant he underwent on September 25 at the Sant'Orsola hospital in Bologna to treat leukemia.

The former Virtus basketball player, now a member of Sassari, posted photos of his return on Instagram. Chef Bruno Barbieri and a plate of tortellini were also waiting for him.

The news was greeted with relief and happiness by hundreds of thousands of fans, not only of basketball but also of other sports, who followed Polonara's own testimonies on social media: from the discovery of acute myeloid leukemia and the first chemotherapy treatments in Spain , to the bone marrow transplant thanks to a donation from an American woman and the complicated recovery. The only moment of silence was the 10 days in a coma , but the thirty-four-year-old basketball player from Ancona managed to overcome even the crisis.

The images of his return will be shown in a report by "Le Iene".
