The seventh round of the international Extreme E series, reserved for electric SUVs, landed again in the Army Training Area of Cape Teulada for another double Island X Prix goes to the Acciona Sainz led by Laia Sainz and Mattias Ekstrom.
The race, co-organised by the Automobile Club of Italy with the support of the Sardinia Region, was dominated by the leaders of the championship, who first won the two qualifying heats and prevailed in the final (ahead of Abt Cupra, which thus interrupted a period lacking in joy, and to Veloce Racing), thus bringing the lead over the Rosberg X Racing team to 18 points and the lead over Veloce, third, to 26 points.
The final opened with an excellent start from Ekstrom of Team Acciona, who took the lead from Scheider (Carl Cox Motorsport), who was then forced to retire with Lia Black at the wheel. Veloce had to deal with a windscreen wiper failure and a penalty, but finished third ahead of Team Rosberg, affected by technical problems. According to Abt Cupra by Sebastien Loeb and Klara Andersson.
«It was the perfect day. It's not often you experience a race like this, because anything can always happen in this series. In the final Mattias' start was very effective and we both did very well in qualifying. We did a great job and we are very happy, but at the same time we are focused on tomorrow. We want to win the Championship and we will continue to fight for this", commented Sainz.
«I think it was a really nice day. Yesterday we felt a good feeling on the dry track, today it was the same on the wet. We had a good set-up, a good strategy and we had two positive qualifying sessions. I think the key to the success was the first corner after the start, I moved towards the outside and went from fourth to first position and had free space. Then Laia drove cleanly and without making mistakes. A great team effort", concluded Ekstrom.
In the Redemption Race, a rollover immediately forced Tamara Molinaro's McLaren to retire. The medical team found that the series driver who took over from Emma Gilmour after yesterday's accident had no apparent damage, but the Italian was still transferred to the medical center for precautionary checks. X44 Vida Carbon Racing also retired in the early stages of the race. The ranking rewarded the Team to Andretti Altawkilat, who preceded The Janson Button Extreme E and the Americans of Hummer.
And today it is repeated, with another intense race which includes Qualifying 1 at 9.30 am and Qualifying 2 at 12.55 pm, two heats which will decide the access to the Redempion Race (4.10 pm), in which the last five crews will participate, and to the Final (4.30 pm) , in which the crews with the five best times will compete for the final victory.
