Ranieri dusts off the three-man defence, placing Mina, captain, Hatzidiakos and Obert alongside him, while up front Oristanio, knocked out by tonsillitis, leaves room for Jankto, who joins Shomurodov and Luvumbo. The Angolan himself, in the 11th minute, grazes the post with a left-footed shot. But a minute later, Inter passes: Darmian's pocket for Sanchez, the ball is reversed and an easy goal from Thuram.
Cagliari reacts and Luvumbo again (in the 17th minute) calls for Sommer to intervene and then (23') sends it just wide with a cross shot. In the 26th minute, good ball for Shomurodov, but his left-footed shot from inside the area doesn't worry Sommer too much. In the 28th minute Barella's winning header, but the Cagliari native is offside.
Immediately afterwards Jankto was called back to the bench by a Ranieri who was not exactly satisfied with the Czech's performance and was replaced by Prati. Cagliari closes in on the attack, but goes into halftime down by a goal.
