Supporting sustainable tourism by funding the albergo diffuso (diffused hotel) system, a form of hospitality in Sardinia's historic centers and villages. This is the direction taken by the Region, which has published a €7.5 million call for proposals to assist local authorities (€2.5 million) and small tourism businesses (€5 million).

"With this call, we will fund approximately 25 proposals. And we don't rule out the possibility of another in the future. This is the first time a call of this kind has been launched," commented Franco Cuccureddu, Regional Councilor for Tourism, Crafts, and Commerce.

We believe that one of Sardinia's strengths, beyond those already known, is its variety of offerings that need to be integrated: a historic center not too far from the sea allows for a variety of offerings, rather than necessarily making them alternatives.

The funding

The grants, up to a maximum of €300,000 per beneficiary, are awarded as capital contributions and cover up to 100% of eligible expenses, with the exception of property purchase or renovation costs, for which a 25% grant is available. Projects must involve a minimum investment of €100,000 and guarantee a rating of at least three stars. The Sardegna Turismo app provides information on the Alberghi Diffusi available on the island.
