HOW TO VOTE

You go to the polls with an identity document (accompanied by photo) and electoral card.

In municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants, a sign can be placed on the candidate for mayor or on the linked list, or both on the candidate and on the linked list. The candidate with the highest number of votes is elected.

In municipalities with more than 15,000 inhabitants it is possible to: trace a sign on the candidate for mayor, in this case the vote is attributed only to him; draw a mark only on one of the lists connected to the candidate for mayor, or even both on the candidate and on one of the lists, in both cases the vote is attributed to both the candidate and the list; there is the possibility of separate voting, thus tracing the sign on a candidate for mayor and another sign on a list not connected to the same.

Whoever obtains 50% plus one of the votes is elected in the first round, if no one reaches this threshold, voting takes place again on 11 and 12 June for the run-off between the two most voted candidates.

PREFERENCES

They express themselves by writing in the spaces provided the surname (or name and surname) of the candidates for directors on the voted list.

In municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, only one preference can be expressed.

In those with 5,000 or more inhabitants, two can be expressed: in the latter case they must concern candidates of different genders, otherwise the second preference is cancelled.

THE QUORUM IN MUNICIPALITIES WITH A SINGLE CANDIDATE

In small municipalities, only one candidate for mayor often presents itself. He is elected if the number of voters is not less than 40% of the voters registered in the electoral lists of the municipality and, among the voters, he obtains a number of valid votes of not less than 50%. Otherwise, the commissioner is triggered.

IN SICILY

Voting is also held in Sicily, where 128 municipalities are called to the polls. Among these, four provincial capitals: Catania, Ragusa, Syracuse and Trapani.
