The requests for grace, the thanks and the prayers expressed inspired the artist from Sassari to create a series of works entitled "Ex-Voto" a few years ago. The creations of Zuanna Maria Boscani were chosen for the exhibition in France, in Dijon, from 3 to 31 March 2026 as part of the Italia Art festival.
The Sassari artist's ex-votos are inspired by popular tradition and sacred culture, by requests for grace or thanksgiving for the grace received from Jesus, the Madonna, or the Saints.
As stated in the presentation of the French exhibition, "Zuanna Maria Boscani conceived this artistic project as a personal interpretation of the ex-voto tradition, focusing on requests for grace, not just graces received. Her visual exploration evokes the most magnetic aspects of sacred culture. In her works, she reinterprets iconographic and cultural values, blending different styles within a creative framework and recreating an exuberant world of brightly colored symbols. Artistic ex-votos are paintings that depict an event in which the artist asks (through a grace requested) or gives thanks (through a grace received) for the benevolent intervention of God, the saints, and the Virgin Mary. Through her work, she recounts a personal experience or asks for something more global and collective, connected to current events."
A multidisciplinary artist who often collaborates with Joe Perrino on projects that blend art, music, and theater, Zuanna Maria Boscani recently participated in the "Walking Poets" project, dedicated to the delicate and complex theme of prison.
