About 51 million Italians (4.7 abroad, including residents and young people on Erasmus) who on Sunday 25 September will be able to go to the polls for the renewal of Parliament. The polling stations will be open from 7 to 23 . We also vote in hospitals (even in Covid departments) and in prisons for those who have requested it.

Here's everything you need to know about election day.

THE TWO CARDS - Voters will be given two identical ballots, pink for the House and yellow for the Senate . The cards show the name of the candidate in the single-member constituency and, for the multi-member constituency, the symbol of each list or the marks of the coalition lists connected to it. Next to the marks on the lists are the names of the relevant candidates in the plurinominal board.

HOW TO VOTE - On each card it is sufficient to draw a single cross: if the sign is made on the name of the candidate in the single-member constituency , the vote is still valid also for the linked list. If there are several linked lists in the coalition, the vote is divided among the coalition lists. If, on the other hand, a sign is drawn on the party , the vote automatically goes to the candidate in the single-member constituency and in favor of the list in the plurinominal constituency. Separate voting is not valid : if the voter makes a mark on the name of the single-member candidate and a mark on a rectangle containing the identification of a list to which the candidate is not connected, the ballot is canceled.

THE ELECTORAL CARD - To vote, in addition to the identity document, the electoral card must be presented, renewable in the electoral office of the Municipality of residence if all the spaces have been stamped . The municipal offices in charge of issuing the cards will remain open from 9 to 18 today and tomorrow. On Sunday they will be open for the entire duration of the voting operations.

THE DOCUMENT - The identity document may also have expired , says the Interior Ministry. A card issued by a professional association is also valid if accompanied by a photograph.

VOTING IN ANOTHER MUNICIPALITY - Those who are outside their municipality of residence must necessarily return to their city, taking advantage of some reduced transport rates. Voting in another municipality is limited to certain cases : hospitalized and nursing homes, military, seafarers, members of the section electoral office, members of the police and list representatives, designated by the parties.

ASSISTED VOTING - For the blind or those with disabilities such that they cannot vote on their own, the vote can be cast with the help of an assistant. In this case , a special code is required on the electoral card that certifies this particular condition.

NO TO CHILDREN - Children who accompany their parents to vote will not be able to enter the voting booth. The use of mobile phones is also prohibited.

AND IN CASE OF ERRORS? - In the event that a voter realizes that he has done something wrong in the voting procedure, he can ask the president of the polling station to replace the ballot with a new one .
