After the mass invasion of theaters for the comic book movie “Deadpool & Wolverine”, the negotiations underway at the top levels of Marvel Studios are announcing big surprises with the introduction of the mutant X-Men into the rich and varied melting pot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe . Maintaining the first place at the box office for over six consecutive weeks - with only a brief interruption due to the release of “Alien: Romulus” - the explosive duo composed of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman has even surpassed the results of the previous “Joker” by Todd Phillips, rising to become the title with the highest grossing ever in the R-rated category and occupying, with the stellar sum of over 608 million dollars, the 15th place among the highest grossing films in the history of American cinema.
Such an impressive result not only creates the right conditions for a sequel, with some more or less realistic rumors already starting to circulate online about a hypothetical “Deadpool 4”, but it further supports the most recent anticipations that want the inclusion of the X-Men within the MCU and an increasingly substantial involvement of the new characters. Already in 2019, shortly after Disney acquired the assets belonging to Fox, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige anticipated to fans the desire to make a reboot on the X-Men. From the latest rumors, insider Danel Ritchman reveals that the screenplay will most likely be taken care of by Michael Lesslie , also known for the recent “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Nightingale and the Serpent”.
With filming scheduled to begin early next year, the studio is reportedly currently looking for the most suitable director for the project. But getting into specifics, Ritchman says that fans could be intrigued by the company's intentions, starting with the future that could involve Wolverine. The beloved character, despite having recently returned to his typical yellow costume, could in fact not appear in the reboot, which will instead welcome a team similar to the one known in the animated series "X-Men '97". It will therefore be a question of finding out how the new superhero team will be received by the fanbase if one of its main members were to escape the roll call.
On what we can expect from the long-awaited mutant-Avengers reunion, Feige said in an interview with DiscussingFilm: "It's extremely exciting, on a personal level, to have done a movie with Hugh after 25 years and to have been a small part of the first X-Men movie. And to know that, through various deals with studios, we now have 1,000 new characters. Now that we have them, it's a lot of fun to think about what we can do. Our X-Men '97 animated series was kind of a first taste. The response to that series has excited us even more and inspired us on how to bring the soap opera and the mutant saga into the MCU."
Surprisingly, we also learn that Kelsey Grammer could return for the next film as the beloved Hank McCoy/Beast, after his brief appearance in the post-credits scene of last year's "The Marvels." On his involvement, during an interview to promote the new season of "Frasier," the actor made it clear that negotiations are currently underway: "There's nothing I can talk about. What I do know is that there was some kind of huge ovation when I came out at the end of The Marvels, I think there was. The reaction was really almost... it wasn't unexpected. There would have been some reaction, but it was pretty overwhelming, and so we had some conversations."
