Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this morning that he will soon meet with US leader Donald Trump as part of efforts to end the war. "We have agreed to a top-level meeting with President Trump in the near future. Much can be decided before the New Year ," Zelensky said on social media.
Ukrainian mediator Rustem Umerov "reported his regular contacts with the American side. We are not wasting a single day. We have agreed to a top-level meeting with President Trump in the near future. Much can be decided by the new year. Glory to Ukraine!" Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel.
Umerov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, informed him of his latest contacts with the American side in Miami, and Ukraine revealed the 20-point peace plan agreed with Washington.
Meanwhile, Russian attacks continued even over Christmas, killing at least three people and wounding 13 others yesterday in the Ukrainian regions of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson . Two of the victims died in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, where 29 settlements were hit and four were injured. The third was a resident of Kostiantynivka, in Donetsk, where three were also injured. Six were injured in Kherson.
Last night, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow "is ready to sign a mutual non-aggression pact with NATO countries . We are ready to formalize these commitments in the form of a written, legally binding document. Its specific form may be determined during negotiations, but it must be a fully-fledged international legal act."
