Wind turbines in the Strait of Bonifacio: Corsica is now raising barricades: "No to mega-plants in our sea."
The Ajaccio Parliament: "The absence of shared planning is unthinkable."L'allarme dell'ex Governatore sui progetti per 105 pale nelle acque del Nord dell'Isola
A clear position, unanimously approved by the Corsican Parliament: no to offshore wind farms in the Strait of Bonifacio and no to the defacement of France's largest (eighty thousand hectares) nature reserve. Corsica does not enjoy special autonomy comparable to Sardinia's, but with limited resources it has managed to act more effectively: to mitigate the danger of being surrounded by giant wind turbines, yesterday it approved a motion proposed by the independentists of Core in Fronte, also supported by the Fà Populu Inseme group.
A vote announced less than a month ago by Paulu Felici Benedetti, leader of the pro-independence group Core in Fronte, on the sidelines of the pact between the two islands against the offshore assault, signed in Sartène with former regional president Mauro Pili. Because, both argue, "the absence of shared planning is unthinkable," and "the wind assault threatens a unique natural, environmental, economic, and human ecosystem. The sea between our islands does not divide two peoples, it unites them; therefore, the response must be joint, immediate, and unambiguous."
The Corsican Parliament did its part without hesitation. "A political lesson for the Sardinian Regional Council, incapable of taking a clear position on an issue crucial to the future of Sardinia," commented Mauro Pili, who was in Ajaccio yesterday, a guest of Corsican independence leaders to attend the parliamentary proceedings. "Corsica discussed the matter, assessed the risks, and voted. Now the Sardinian Regional Council must do the same."
