Volkswagen in crisis, to cut 100,000 jobs

Volkswagen's supervisory board yesterday evening unanimously approved a restructuring plan that envisages a workforce reduction of 100,000 jobs over five years.
The plan, called "Plan for the Future 2030", envisages the elimination of around 50,000 additional jobs globally by the end of the decade , in addition to the 50,000 cuts already decided in Germany starting from 2024, affecting the Volkswagen brand.
Overall, the announced or planned cuts would therefore reach a share equal to approximately 15% of the global workforce of the group, which comprises ten brands including Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Seat, Skoda.
The company also plans to halve its model range by 2035. The group is also targeting an operating margin of 9% in 2030, compared to just 3% in 2025, and plans to invest 135 billion euros in plants, research and development between 2027 and 2031.
