Vatican: "There are too many problems in prison. At least during the Jubilee, alternatives should be opened up."

I learned of the death of a woman in Rebibbia prison just as several magistrates and I had begun a conference on prisons. We observed a minute of silence for reflection. This is truly sad news, but it once again brings to mind the state of hardship, suffering, and lack of dignity in which prisoners live.
These are the words of Monsignor Rino Fisichella, delegate for the Holy Year . "At least in this Jubilee Year ," he appeals, " may we open up prospects that lead to what Pope Francis asked for at the beginning of the Jubilee : forms of amnesty and liberation ."
