"There is considerable cultural resistance in Italy to addressing abuse." This is what emerges from the report presented today at the Vatican by the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, which highlights critical issues in recognizing and managing cases of violence.

According to the document, cultural taboos still entrenched in the country "can make it difficult for victims and their families to discuss their experiences and report them to the authorities." This situation, the Commission emphasizes, continues to hinder access to listening, justice, and prevention.

The report also highlights partial collaboration by the Italian Church in the Vatican's research : "The five-year questionnaire of the Commission on Protection received responses from 81 of the 226 dioceses belonging to the Italian Episcopal Conference."
