Donald Trump's battle against wind turbines continues. His administration will pay German energy company RWE $1.22 billion to abandon its plans to build wind farms off the coasts of New York, California, and Louisiana . The New York Times reports.

This is the fifth such agreement reached by the US government this year to block the development of offshore wind, a renewable energy source that Trump has repeatedly expressed skepticism and opposition to.

Under the agreement, RWE will voluntarily cede three concessions it holds for wind farms in federal waters. The government will reimburse the German company approximately the amount it paid for the concessions during the Biden administration.

RWE also committed to investing $900 million to acquire a 16% indirect stake in a liquefied natural gas project in Louisiana and will sign a $300 million order for new gas turbines for electricity generation. The company has stated its intention to build at least 15 natural gas power plants to cover peak demand in the United States.
