The United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia recognize the State of Palestine. Netanyahu: "Our existence is in danger."
The initiative is the result of a "coordinated international effort" between the three countries. The Israeli prime minister will address the UN next week: "I will present the truth."United Kingdom, Canada and Australia recognize the State of Palestine.
“Today, to revive hope for peace between Palestinians and Israelis and a two-state solution, the United Kingdom formally recognises the State of Palestine ,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on X.
The first country was Canada, which, as Prime Minister Mark Carney stated, "recognizes the State of Palestine and offers its collaboration to build the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel ."
Australia also followed suit. In a statement, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the move was part of a "coordinated international effort" with Canada and the United Kingdom, the announcement of which came shortly after.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted harshly: "A Palestinian state would endanger Israel's existence," he thundered, promising to "fight calls for the creation of a Palestinian state before the UN."
"At the UN," the Israeli prime minister said at the weekly cabinet meeting, ahead of his address to the General Assembly on Friday, "I will present the truth. This is Israel's truth, but it is also the objective truth of our just struggle against the forces of evil and of our vision of true peace: peace through strength ."
"We will also have to fight at the UN and in all other arenas against false propaganda aimed at us and against calls for the creation of a Palestinian state, which would endanger our existence and constitute an absurd reward for terror," he continued, repeating, the Times of Israel reports, previous statements that nations recognizing a Palestinian state at the General Assembly are "rewarding Hamas's terrorist acts against Israel."
After the UN General Assembly, Netanyahu reminds us, "I will meet with my friend, President Trump. It will be the fourth time I've met him since the beginning of his second term, more than any other world leader. And we have a lot to discuss."
