Melania Trump obtains a humanitarian truce in Oleshky, the small Ukrainian land in the Kherson region that is being reduced to extreme poverty and for which even Pope Leo XIV had expressed his support in recent days with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.
The White House announced the ceasefire, which it explained will begin on October 29th to allow aid to enter the besieged town and prepare for the evacuation of civilians. Moscow, however, clarified that Russian forces will observe the truce in the area starting at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time (3:00 a.m. Italian time) on Tuesday, October 27th.
To finalize the terms of the operation, the US First Lady worked directly with Russian and Ukrainian leaders: "It was completely clear that, without my intervention, it would have been impossible to get humanitarian aid into the city and evacuate the elderly," said Melania, who has long been committed to working with Moscow to reunite child victims of the war with their families.
And the Kremlin applauded the First Lady's work: "She has made a significant contribution," noted spokesman Dmitry Peskov. And Donald Trump praised his wife, while ruling out the idea of her involvement in the trilateral negotiations between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine: "She wants to save children; that's her focus. Both sides are cooperating with her; she's doing a good job," he noted.
