Flights were briefly suspended at Manchester Airport this morning after two easyJet planes bound for Gibraltar and Paris collided on the runway, touching wings before take-off.

The planes, bound for Paris and Gibraltar, managed to return to the airport where all passengers disembarked. No injuries were reported.

“We felt the whole plane shake: it was a violent impact,” a passenger said.

EasyJet said an investigation was launched immediately to determine what happened. A spokesperson said: "EasyJet can confirm that the wingtips of two aircraft came into contact this morning while taxiing to the runway at Manchester Airport. The aircraft returned to the apron to disembark passengers, who were provided with meal vouchers, while replacement aircraft are being arranged to operate the flights. We apologize to customers for the delay to their flights. The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority ."
