"Effective immediately, an energy truce is in effect in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides have agreed. Do not violate it."

Donald Trump announced it on his social media platform Truth.

But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claims he knows nothing about it: "This is news to me," he says. " But if the Russians accept an energy truce, Ukraine will agree. If President Trump negotiated it with Putin—please tell us when the ceasefire will begin—we are ready and will accept it."

"Ukraine supports the truce, and it's important that Russia supports it too," he wrote on Facebook, after reporting that he had spoken with the leaders of Canada, Finland, and NATO. "We await details from the American side. For our part, Ukraine always fully supports measures aimed at de-escalation, protecting human lives, and the decisions necessary to end the war and ensure lasting peace."

Meanwhile, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she had a "good conversation with President Zelensky." "I fully supported President Zelensky's call for a ceasefire to protect global food supplies and energy infrastructure in Ukraine and Russia," she said in a statement. " The war has entered a new, darker phase. Russia is stalemated on the battlefield and targeting civilians far from the front lines. I expressed our solidarity with the Ukrainian people. And my full support for President Zelensky, who is leading the fight for his people's freedom."
