A truce has been reached in Lebanon following a heated phone call between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu .

"I had a conversation with Bibi Netanyahu today, urging him not to undertake a full-scale incursion into Beirut, Lebanon. He turned his troops around. Thank you, Bibi ," Trump wrote on Truth, claiming he also spoke with Hezbollah leaders.

And so the negotiations with Iran, which were halted yesterday precisely because of the raids in Lebanon (complete with Tehran's threat of a total closure of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb), can begin again.

"There was a little hiccup, but I resolved it quickly. I spoke to Hezbollah and said no shooting. I spoke to Bibi and said no shooting. They stopped shooting at each other," Trump said in an interview with ABC, adding that the agreement with Iran could come within "the next week."

Trump's tone was thus conciliatory towards his Israeli ally, but things didn't quite go that way yesterday, when, according to Axios, the US president lashed out at the Israeli prime minister over the escalation in Lebanon, during a profanity-filled phone call in which he called him a "crazy man."

"You're fucking crazy. You'd be in prison if it weren't for me. I'm saving your ass. Now everyone hates you. Everyone hates Israel because of this," Trump reportedly told Netanyahu, as reported by Axios, citing a source. Another source also reported that Trump was "furious" and told his Israeli counterpart, "What the f... are you doing?" While Trump has acknowledged Israel's right to respond to Hezbollah attacks, the military has reportedly overreacted with its current actions in Lebanon, jeopardizing efforts to extend the ceasefire with Iran, which makes the agreement contingent on a truce in Lebanon.
