No longer "artificial intelligence," but "super intelligence" to "recognize the ever-evolving technological frontier and the infinite promise it offers to the American people."
US President Donald Trump has signed the executive order replacing AI with SI. This follows the signing of an agreement between Trump himself and the leaders of major Big Tech companies: Dario Amodei for Anthropic, Mark Zuckerberg for Meta, Elon Musk for XAI, Greg Brockman for Open AI, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google.
The agreement aims to encourage companies to take responsibility, focusing on "safe technological development that builds trust with customers and the public."
The companies also commit to increasing levels of oversight and verification, assigning – among other things – "full authority to an internal team to ensure that all control, monitoring, and detection activities are functioning as intended and that any issues are corrected."
The proposal also includes the establishment of an independent committee within the board of directors, tasked with overseeing and receiving reports from operational control teams and internal and external auditors and evaluators, as well as ensuring the resolution of any identified critical issues.
"Together, these measures will provide every company, its customers, and the public with confidence that the technology operates as expected," the agreement reads.
Meanwhile, Trump has set clear boundaries. With the executive order, all departments and agencies will no longer be able to use the term "artificial intelligence," but only "superintelligence."
While it's true that the United States, the White House explains, has been a "world leader" in AI "for 70 years," meaning "since its inception as a field of research," the name "Super Intelligence expresses the true potential of technologies being developed today, capable of unlocking new forms of human creativity and allowing Americans to achieve previously impossible goals, without simply imitating or automating human intelligence, as the term Artificial Intelligence suggests."
