US President Donald Trump has launched Operation "Project Freedom" to free ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz. He wrote on the social media site Truth that "it will begin Monday morning, Middle East time."

Trump specified that he was "fully aware that my representatives are having very positive discussions with Iran and that these discussions could lead to something very positive for everyone. The moving of the ships is solely for the purpose of freeing people, companies, and countries that have committed no wrongdoing: they are victims of circumstance."

For the US president, "this is a humanitarian gesture on the part of the United States, the countries of the Middle East, but above all Iran. Many of these ships are running low on food supplies and everything else necessary to allow their numerous crews to remain on board in sanitary and hygienic conditions. I believe this gesture represents a great sign of goodwill on the part of all those who have fought so strenuously in recent months. If, in any way, this humanitarian process is hindered, such interference must unfortunately be firmly resisted," Trump specified.
