"We've made Washington more beautiful." Donald Trump said this at the White House the day after his midterm election defeat , showing off the construction work on his residence's gigantic new ballroom. The tycoon spent ten minutes at the ballroom construction site discussing all the renovations he's initiated.

Then, however, comments on the electoral defeat began to arrive. According to the president, what determined the defeat at the polls was "not so much the war against Iran as the high prices." A few hours earlier, his vice president, J.D. Vance, had instead pointed to the conflict with Tehran as one of the reasons for the defeat, and Trump himself had admitted that part of the negative result was caused by the war in the Middle East.

Trump also addressed potential attacks from Democrats now that they have secured majorities in both the Senate and the House. "If they impeached me," the president thundered, "the Democratic Party would be destroyed," but expressed hope that he could "get along" with the Democrats during his next two years in office.
