Donald Trump returns to his attack on Volodymyr Zelensky after the Washington-Moscow diesel deal. "He targets diesel refineries in Russia, despite knowing that such attacks severely damage global diesel markets, including the US, and has no interest in ending this war," the US president writes in Truth.
The tycoon reiterates his decision to freeze sanctions on Russia: "I am working to negotiate peace in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and I don't want to take any steps that could foolishly push Russia away from the negotiating table. Great progress has been made, including in the ongoing negotiations for the release of the hostages!"
Then comes the attack on Zelensky, yet another: "He is targeting diesel refineries in Russia, even though he knows such attacks severely damage global diesel markets, including those in the United States. Farmers, ranchers, and businesses of all kinds are suffering greatly; yet, despite this, Russia continues to supply the world with millions of barrels of diesel at low prices. Zelensky doesn't care, and frankly, given the enormous influx of money he receives from Europe—and what he has received in the past from the corrupt Joe Biden—he has no interest in ending this war, and probably never has. Two years ago, he could have gotten a better deal than he can today. His country is in ruins, much of its territory is lost, it no longer has access to any oceans or seas, and its male population is decimated, injured, or dead. I WANT THIS WAR TO END!" Trump wrote.
Putin's proposal
Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, has proposed a three-way summit on Ukraine—without Zelensky. It should be held in November, with the participation of Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, with the aim of negotiating a favorable end to the conflict for Moscow.
The plan is Putin's attempt to capitalize on his rapprochement with Trump, a dynamic that has raised concerns in Ukraine and among its allies in Washington and Europe. Such a summit, without Volodymyr Zelensky, would be unprecedented and a wake-up call in European capitals and beyond.
Putin raised the idea of the three-way summit during a phone call with Trump on October 9, according to a former Russian intelligence official. During that same conversation, an agreement was reached that would see the United States purchase Russian diesel fuel, while also facilitating its sale on the global market.
A senior US official clarified that Trump has not yet given his approval for such a summit. However, according to the same source, the president may be open to the idea, given his desire to fulfill his campaign promise to end the war.
