Hamas accepts the ceasefire resolution voted yesterday by the United Nations Security Council and is ready to negotiate the details.

Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior official of the Palestinian armed movement, confirmed this to Reuters, adding that it is up to Washington to ensure that Israel respects the agreements.

“The US administration is facing a real test to follow through on its commitments to force the occupation to immediately end the war in implementation of the UN Security Council resolution,” Zuhri explained.

Hamas' announcement comes after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken assured that "Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also reaffirmed his commitment to the ceasefire in Gaza".

The agreement is supported, among other things, by Egypt and Turkey, who now invite Israel and Hamas to take "serious steps" to implement its provisions without delay or conditionality.
