Twenty people were injured and taken to hospital, two of them in a serious condition , after a crowded commuter train derailed in south-east England yesterday afternoon , not far from the popular seaside resort of Brighton, British emergency services said.

Around 150 passengers were on board the train from London. The accident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. local time , the ambulance service said.

Footage from the crash site in East Sussex showed at least three overturned carriages and paramedics at the scene.

The cause of the accident remains unknown.

The accident involved a Southern Rail train, which connects areas south of London with the British capital.
