Emergency in Switzerland. Due to an avalanche, a regional train derailed in the canton of Valais, in the Stockgrabe area, between Goppenstein and Hohtenn. Blick reports, adding that the regional express had departed from Spiez, Bern, around 6:00 a.m.
There were about thirty people on board, all of whom were evacuated. Five of them were injured: "One," the Valais police reported, "was taken to Sion hospital, while the other four were treated on site by emergency services and did not require hospitalization."
No Italian nationals were involved, the Italian embassy in Switzerland reported to ANSA after contacting the cantonal police.
Firefighters, ambulances, a helicopter, and eight mountain rescue teams are also on site. The Frutigen-Brig line will be closed at least until tomorrow.
