The British government has banned American Bully dogs, an American variation of pit bulls, in England and Wales.
From tomorrow the law announced by Sunak's executive last October becomes valid following a worrying increase in fatal attacks by these aggressive animals.
In anticipation of the ban, the latest notice is issued to owners who must register their four-legged pets or otherwise they will be forced to euthanize them by contacting a veterinarian.
To date, 30 thousand American Bullies have been registered, but their number is believed to be much higher.
The executive has introduced very radical measures that prohibit the sale, abandonment, breeding or giving away of any of these animals, after their involvement "disproportionately" in recent attacks. Owners are obliged to neuter them and keep them in public only with a leash and muzzle.
The latest victim was a man stabbed last September. In many cases it was children who suffered attacks. As in the case of Jack Lis, 10 years old, who died in 2021 from serious neck and head injuries inflicted by a pit bull in a locality in Wales. His mother, Emma Whitfield, had started a public initiative to get the American Bully banned.
