Tom Barrack , longtime friend and ally of Donald Trump, as well as former owner of the Costa Smeralda Consortium, was acquitted.

The American financier was accused of lying to the FBI and illegally lobbying the United States as an unregistered foreign agent on behalf of the UAE .

Last year the billionaire was also arrested, his complete acquittal is a blow to the Justice Department that is trying to eradicate foreign influences in American politics.

Barrack bought the Costa Smeralda Consortium from Aga Khan in 2003 , which was then resold after a few years to the Emir of Qatar.
