He was driving his car along a highway in eastern Australia when he felt something scrape against his foot.

She looked down and discovered that it was the infamous tiger snake, a species with a deadly bite, among the most venomous in the world . Moments of terror for a cold-blooded woman, who managed to push the animal back and wriggle through traffic before pulling over and jumping out of the vehicle to save herself.

Police found her in a state of shock and barefoot on the side of the Monash Freeway, near Melbourne .

"He was traveling at 80 km/h," the officers said, "when he felt something slithering from his foot to his leg. Tiger snakes, so called because of their colored stripes, are among the most venomous snakes in the world. About a meter long, they have a thick body and respond to threats by rising from the ground and flattening their head and neck ."

Police said the woman was checked by paramedics to ensure she had not been bitten, and a “snake catcher” removed the reptile, described as huge, from the vehicle.
