The volcanic eruption that began on 19 September on the island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands continues: in the last hours, authorities and volcanology experts have observed that the lava flow ejected towards the coast has revived and last night the flow was already arrived 1.6 kilometers from the coast, after having overwhelmed several houses in the town of Todoque. Local authorities have ordered the population of some urban centers located on the coast to stay indoors.

Among the buildings destroyed by the lava there would also be the village church and the local health center.

Since the eruption began, over 500 buildings have been buried.

Now the possibility is reopened that the lava reaches the sea, a phenomenon that would cause "columns of water vapor charged with hydrochloric acid" which could represent a "local danger" for people who are nearby.

La Palma airport is currently operational, but flight delays or cancellations remain possible. (Unioneonline / vl)
