Part of the federal administration has been frozen since midnight tonight. This is the situation the United States has officially entered: it's the first time this has happened in seven years, and there's currently no solution in sight to the budget impasse in Congress between Donald Trump's Republicans and the Democratic opposition.

Several hundred thousand public employees will be laid off, and serious disruptions are expected for public service users. This is a highly unpopular situation in the US, for which each party is already blaming the other.

The Democrats "want to shut everything down, we don't," the American president assured.
