Warm welcome for Pope Francis, visiting Corsica this weekend.

On Saturday, at the Palais des Congrès et des Expositions in Ajaccio, Bergoglio participated in a conference focused on the themes of popular piety and spirituality in the Mediterranean, where the life of society is traditionally marked by religious festivals, processions and pilgrimages.

Among the speakers, in addition to the bishop of Nîmes, Nicolas Brouwet, and various experts, teachers and specialists in the field , was also Monsignor Roberto Carboni, archbishop of Oristano, who focused on popular piety and devotional traditions in Sardinia.

On Sunday, instead, Francis will stop at the “Pascal Paoli” Auditorium in Ajaccio, for a speech in front of around 400 people.

Also on Sunday, during the Angelus, Bergoglio asked the “Madunnuccia”, venerated in Corsica, to intercede for peace. “From this Island of the Mediterranean, we raise to her the plea for peace: peace for all the lands that overlook this Sea, especially for the Holy Land where Mary gave birth to Jesus. Peace for Palestine, for Israel, for Lebanon, for Syria, for the entire Middle East! Peace for Myanmar. And may the Holy Mother of God obtain the longed-for peace for the Ukrainian people and the Russian people. They are brothers, they are cousins, may they understand each other. War is always a defeat. Peace,” said Francis.
