The latest toll from the devastating double earthquake that struck Venezuela is at least 235 dead, 4,300 injured, and over 45,000 missing.

According to the Interior Minister's announcement on public television, over 70,000 Venezuelan families are currently homeless. In La Guaira, the state hardest hit by the earthquake, 100 buildings have collapsed. The most damaged areas in the state are Caraballeda and Catia La Mar.

There have been numerous reports of non-responsive Italians , the Foreign Ministry reports. Among the confirmed victims is an Italian-Venezuelan. A newborn baby was pulled alive from the rubble.

Interim President Rodriguez confirmed the imminent arrival of international relief workers. An Italian Civil Protection team with 40 firefighters will leave for Caracas this morning.
