Thailand is the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage .

A historic vote in the Senate, the measure passed with 130 votes in favour, 4 against and 18 abstentions and was hailed as a major victory by activists.

Parliament changed marriage laws to allow same-sex couples to get married.

The text will now be submitted to the king for entry into force by the end of the year .
