The ceasefire covers "all types of weapons, including attacks against civilians, civilian targets and infrastructure, and military objectives on both sides, in all cases and in all areas," according to the statement signed by the defense ministers of the two countries. Both sides agree to freeze all troop movements and allow civilians living in the border areas to return home as soon as possible, the statement reads.
They also pledged to cooperate in mine clearance and the fight against cybercrime. The ceasefire will come into effect to end fighting over a handful of ancient temples in disputed areas along the two countries' shared border. It comes after three days of border talks announced following a crisis meeting of foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which includes Cambodia and Thailand. The United States, China, and Malaysia have also pressed their warring neighbors to resume the ceasefire. The three countries had negotiated a truce to end five days of deadly clashes in July, but the ceasefire was short-lived.
