Tensions are rising in the Middle East, with the United States bombing Iran after an Iranian attack on a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz .
The US military conducted airstrikes in the Hormuz area, shortly before Trump announced "consequences" for Tehran's ceasefire violation. Iranian missile and drone depots and coastal radar were bombed.
Iran condemned the "clear violation" of the memorandum of understanding signed 10 days ago, and promptly responded by striking several US targets in the Gulf. Bahrain in particular announced it had been targeted by several drones and accused Tehran of "sabotaging peace efforts." In a statement, Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned "the attack on its territory at dawn on Saturday by several Iranian drones, in flagrant violation of its sovereignty," and "holds Tehran fully responsible for sabotaging peace efforts."
"If the aggression were to repeat itself, our response will be broader than this," the Revolutionary Guards warned , quoted by state television IRIB.
And evidence of the ever-rising tension is the message posted on social media overnight by US Vice President J.D. Vance: "Iran has signed a ceasefire agreement. We have respected it. If they have any disagreements about how the memorandum of understanding is being implemented, they can call us," but "we will respond to violence with violence."
