Tensions are running high with Iran, with media reporting a possible US military intervention within 24 hours.
Some American personnel abandon al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Protests are repressed with violence and intimidation. Two European officials said that a US military intervention in Iran appears likely and that one of them said it could happen within the next 24 hours.
Reuters reports this on its website. "An Israeli official also said," Reuters writes, "that Trump appears to have made the decision to intervene, although the scope and timing have not yet been clarified."
Meanwhile, the US is asking some American personnel to abandon al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US base in the Middle East (hosting 10,000 troops). Meanwhile, the Iranian regime continues to resist the street, defying the United States.
The protests sweeping the country are being repressed with intimidation, in addition to violence, with Pasdaran raids on the homes of families of slain protesters, according to opposition groups. And alarm is growing over the resumption of hangings: the head of the judiciary has promised "speedy trials," which could lead to the death penalty. This is despite Donald Trump's warning not to go down this path.
For the second time in a matter of days, Tehran authorities called thousands of people onto the streets, gathering for the funerals of over 100 members of the security forces and other "martyrs" killed during the protests. State television footage showed the crowd waving Islamic Republic flags during the ceremony, and banners reading "Death to America" appeared. Photos of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the US president appeared, their faces bloodied after the 2024 assassination attempt. The caption read: "This time they won't miss it."
