Tehran: «The October 7 attacks are revenge for the killing of Soleimani». Hamas denies it
The Pasdaran's statement raises fears of a widening of the conflict: Iran had always denied its participation in the attacksThe Hamas attack on 7 October was a retaliation for the killing, in January 2020, of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani , head of the Qods Brigade of the Pasdaran, the guardians of the revolution.
This was declared by Pasdaran spokesman Ramadan Sharif, and the statement is sensational given that Iran, while supporting Hamas, has always denied its participation in the attacks in which more than 1,100 people were killed on Israeli territory on 7 October .
Soleimani, long the architect of Iran's military strategy in the region, was killed four years ago at Baghdad airport in Iraq by a US military drone.
The Pasdaran's statement, which at this point raises fears of a widening of the conflict , comes after Israel's killing of Iranian general Razi Moussavi and Tehran's response, which also swore revenge before the UN General Assembly .
Shortly afterwards, however, came the denial from Hamas : «We deny - we read in a statement quoted by the media - when reported by the spokesperson of the Revolutionary Guards regarding the operation and its reasons. We have underlined the reasons several times, the main one of which was the threat to the Al-Aqsa mosque. Every response of the Palestinian resistance is a reaction to the occupation and the aggression against the Palestinian people and the holy places ."
