Shots were fired into a crowd during the night in Aarau, northern Switzerland, near Zurich, near a rave party.
"Massive police intervention underway. Stay away from the area," police wrote on X.
According to the Swiss newspaper Blick, the initial toll is one dead and five injured, with shots fired before 3 a.m. on the fringes of the 'Aarauer Rave,' an annual techno party that brings together around 3,500 people at the Aarau racecourse.
The incident apparently occurred "at the racetrack," police spokeswoman Vanessa Rumpold told Blick. She added that police can now confirm that "several shots were fired within a large group of people."
According to the newspaper, a witness reported hearing “a rapid-fire barrage of gunshots.”
Police have launched a major operation in the area , and local media reported that the operation could indicate that the suspects are still being sought.
