Spain has the first death in Europe due to monkeypox , a disease for which the WHO recently declared an international health emergency .

The Iberian Ministry of Health confirmed the death, as reported by the newspaper El Mundo.

To date , 4,298 confirmed cases have been registered in Spain . Of the 3,750 infected people on whom information is available, 120 were hospitalized (3.2%). The death would concern one of the hospitalized patients.

Among the sick there are 4,081 men and 64 women , while the sex of three has not been disclosed.

In these hours , a victim has also registered in Brazil . It is a 41-year-old man hospitalized in Belo Horizonte.

"The death occurred while he was receiving hospital treatment for other serious conditions," the state health ministry said in a statement.
