Bressanone is mourning the death of Julia Marie Gaiser in a car accident in Salzburg. The 24-year-old, a promising figure skater, was in the Austrian city for university.

Gaiser was riding a bike path along Gaisbergstraße, a busy road, when she was struck by a truck turning right near an intersection. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts, she died at the scene.

The truck driver was subjected to a breathalyzer test, which however resulted negative.

Mayor Andreas Jungmann expressed his condolences in the Corriere dell'Alto Adige: "I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Gaiser family. This is a great loss, especially for the world of sport."

Anneliese Schenk, head of the figure skating section of the FISG provincial committee, recalls that "she had started ice skating late, compared to the standards of our sport: she was around 8 years old, when many girls start at 4 or 5. Despite this, Julia Marie managed to achieve good results, thanks to daily training. For her, skating was everything, and she lived this sport with great passion. For a time, she was even called up to the national team."
